i think i blew the second round interview. did i mention i passed the sql test and they wanted me back for a second interview? they did. i did. poorly. i can't believe i botched the "what is polymorphism" question. thats fucking day one of school there. i should've nailed it.

after talking to jeremy about some of the stuff the guy asked me, he said he'd heard of design patterns and that they were a great asset to know. so i looked into two books jeremy recommended. the design patterns book looks amazing. i rsearched patterns a little and they're these ways of architecting a piece of software to alleviate problems that arise. jer said that he was having problems programming at work and talked to a friend about it. the friend said something like, "oh, you're Double Dipping with the code. you need to use the Nomad patter." i made up the double dip and nomad thing, but those are the kinds of names these problems/solutions have. jer said that he rearranged his code according to the suggestion, and everything cleared up immediately.

i'm amazed. i'm a geek, and i'm amazed.

went to a USC holiday party for jen's classmates the other day. i was sort of dreading it, but i really enjoyed myself. i recognized enough people there and could talk to them easily enough that i felt like i almost sort of belonged there. these kids are all different kind of characters. Needleman and her boyfriend are cool. i think her boyfriend has sort of a guy-crush on me, i guess because we're both outsider boyfriends with people who actually belong there. brion got busted looking at shelby's boobs, which was mad funny. john boyd and i had to explain that while yes, it was funny, and he shouldn't have done it, but that in his defense, it's really, really hard to not get caught in the cavernous, hypnotic vortex of cleavage. women with low-cut shirts may as well have a spinning black and white spiral there. i like both brion and shelby. i especially like shelby, i think because we've bonded a little more than some other people.

the other night usc people were hanging out at a bar, so shelby came over and smoked with us then drove us over to the bar since she lives nearby. after a little while, the three of us and john boyd and these kids' foreign TA vachin went to ihop across the street. long story short, shelby challenged me to a duel of eating chicken fried steak and eggs (and pancakes), and i won but lost in the end because i was seriously in the hurt box. also, vachin is CrAzY and was FuCkInG wEiRd.

so i tlaked to shelby a lot that night. hugh looks like the movie swingers. the entire movie, embodied in the lovechild of all its actors. a little weird, no?

anyway, the reason i wanted to write tonight is that we had these chicken pierogies from trader joe's tonight, and they were freaking awesome.

so if there's a trader joe's near you, go buy the frozen chicken pierogies. they're freaking awesome.
