california is a lot like south florida, only more populated and smooshed together. but instead of everything being in generally one direction (ie everyone lives in one area and the rest of civilization is in another area; a feeling i'm quite used to, having lived in middle-of-buttfuck pennsylvania, middle-of-buttfuck upstate in new york, and not-exactly-the-center-of-civilization florida), everything is everywhere, and i'm in the middle.

and its a little overwhelming. the extent of my geographic knowledge doesn't extend too much further than the target a block down, and a general sense of what is south and west of us, on la brea and santa monica. but there is so much more. all of highland is ours. sunset boulevard is ours. hollywood boulevard is ours. and there's a boatload to the north and west.

my job hunt bites ass. i've been applying to stuff like... well, like its my job. i haven't heard back from anything though, which is a little discouraging. granted, i shouldn't expect a reply immediately, but it'd be nice to at least know that they received my resume.

my apartment is starting to kick a reasonable amount of ass. we have just about all the furniture we'll ever need (maybe a coffee table, eventually), thanks to ikea and the salvation army. the decorating is coming along slowly but surely. my current masterpiece is the spirograph i jimmied up in our bedroom.

to make:

pin down a length of string on your wall and adhere a pencil to the end of it. using the string as a compass, lightly sketch a circle on your wall. now space out thumbtacks evenly along the circle. take a colored string (your choice), tie it to one pin, and start weaving. i used 47 pins, so i went every 23 pins. depending on how many pins you use, adjust the number of pins to skip accordingly. i'm actually going to weave another grpah on top of the old one, but going every ten or so. it's looking bitchin' so far.

my new masterpice will be covering the dining room wall with "earth from above" pictures. jen's doing most of the legwork (and scissor/tapework), but the idea was mine, so dibs on the credit.

i talked to phaan briefly today, which was a big awesome surprise. i miss phaan, even though i never really got to hang out with her too much. she's all sorts of cynical awesome. and way too cool for me.

i recently discovered a program called edonkey. if you're not using it, download something called overnet and start downloading away. its awesome.

i think i'm going to redesign my diary again. something more california-y. again, if anyone wants their shit reshitted, shit me a shit.
